Hello, my name is Joudey Elshanawany and I am a grade 12 student at White Oaks secondary school in Oakville. This fall quadmester, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to have a placement at the Clarkson Sports and Physiotherapy clinic in Mississauga. Firstly, I’d like to start off by saying how nice of an environment it is- all the staff are super friendly and really helped me learn a lot despite only being here for a few short weeks. They make the experience fun and I would definitely recommend it for anyone interested in sports and medicine.
Throughout my time here, I was able to watch many cool things such as acupuncture which uses needles to relieve pain, machines that stimulate a patient’s muscles without them exerting any effort, and many other things. I’ve also learned a lot of general lessons from looking to a patient’s face for any signs of pain to how small ergonomic fixes can make a world of difference. I’ve also learned about various career paths that I had never considered before including chiropractors, physiotherapists, and massage therapists.
Overall, it was an amazing experience that taught me many skills I will carry into whatever future opportunities await me.
