What is Osteopathic Manual Therapy?
Osteopathy is a hands-on form of manual therapy that views the body as an interconnected whole.
Osteopathic Manual Practitioners assess how the body’s structure, mobility, and movement may be contributing to pain, tension, stiffness, or reduced function.
Rather than focusing only on the area where symptoms are felt, an osteopathic assessment considers how different areas and systems of the body work together.
Joints, muscles, connective tissues, the tissues surrounding the internal organs (viscera), posture, breathing patterns, previous injuries, and movement habits may all be considered when assessing how the body is functioning.
Treatment uses gentle, hands-on techniques aimed at improving mobility, reducing restrictions, and supporting the body’s ability to move and function more efficiently.
Treatment may involve different areas of the body depending on the individual assessment and may include musculoskeletal, cranial, and visceral approaches.
Each treatment is individualized and based on the patient’s health history, assessment findings, and personal goals.
